- an umbrella: (#1)
In "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," Indiana and Henry Jones are being attacked by a Nazi fighter pilot. Seeing some birds on the beach, Henry uses an umbrella to intentionally startle the birds into flight, causing the airplane to crash a la "Miracle on the Hudson."
- an umbrella: (#2)
A man protecting his cello from the rain while getting wet himself.
While doing research for this article I learned that the photograph was staged. How disappointing. But it's still a great image.
- a bicycle:
That scene in "The Transporter" where Jason Statham pours grease all over himself and then uses sharp bicycle pedals for traction.
(The good part starts at 3:07.)
- a "Speak and Spell":
Used by ET to "phone home."
- a book:
In "The Relic" (trailer), someone uses a really thick textbook to squash a monster-sized bug. I know that telling people not to use e-readers is like asking the tide not to come in, but seriously, what are you going to do if you get attacked by an insect the size of a watermelon and all you have to defend yourself with is a Kindle?
- the Bible:
"The Shawshank Redemption"
If you've seen the movie you know exactly what I mean, and if you haven't seen the movie I'm not telling....
- a cellphone:
In "Jurassic Park 3," the characters have to reach into a pile of manure to answer a cell phone. (At least I think it was #3 in the series...) (A related scene.)
- a passport:
Scene: Liz says, slowly and seductively, "I would really like to hear you say the word 'passport.' "
